I first added this family-owned dealer to my review list more than a decade ago, back when it was mostly known to local collectors. A lot has changed since then, including a set of corrections the owner himself sent over in August 2026. Sahara Coins & Precious Metals has been serving Southern Nevada since 1997. Sahara Coins buys, sells, and evaluates a wide range of hard assets: gold, silver, platinum, and palladium bullion, rare U.S. and foreign coins, collectible paper money, jewelry, and other collectibles. They also offer personal property appraisals, which is handy if you have inherited a collection and have no idea what is sitting in the box.

As with any dealer, the premium you pay over melt value is what matters most. Bullion premiums move constantly with the live gold price, so compare Sahara's quote on a given coin against at least one national online dealer before you buy, especially on numismatic pieces where pricing is more subjective.

Precious Metals IRA Services

This is the biggest change since my original review. For years, Sahara Coins' website made no mention of IRAs at all. That has changed: the company now offers precious metals IRA assistance and works with Preferred Trust Company, a Las Vegas based self-directed IRA custodian, to help customers purchase IRA-eligible gold, silver, platinum, and palladium for their retirement accounts.

The split works the way it should: Sahara Coins acts as the dealer and helps you pick IRA-eligible metals, while Preferred Trust handles account setup, transfers, rollovers, and custody.
