Company Info and Background

Gainesville Coins (www.gainesvillecoins.com) is a precious metals dealer based in Lutz, Florida. Established in 2000, the company offers a myriad of gold, silver, and platinum products that appeal to both investors and collectors. Additionally, this precious metals dealer also provides assistance with opening a precious metals IRA.

The company has a wide array of bullion products to choose from, depending on client preference. Everything from popular IRA-approved coins and bars, to ancient coins are available at Gainesville Coins.

Moreover, Gainesville Coins is committed to informing customers about precious metals investment, and specifically, the collection of coins. The website offers a “Coin Library”, providing a comprehensive list of American coins available for collectors. There is also a “News & Blog” section providing a myriad of topics on coins, precious metals, and market news.

Gainesville Coins Management Team

Gainesville Coins is not transparent about its leadership team on the company website. However, its LinkedIn page states that Michael Yaffe is the company president. In our books, this dealt a slight blow to our level of confidence in the Gainesville Coins team, since most companies in the space are more open about the people behind bullion.

On the company's RocketReach profile, the following personnel is currently listed as employees of Gainesville Coins:

  • Joseph Yaffe (Co-owner)
  • Luis Briceno (Trader)
  • Steve Cochran (Senior Web Content Writer)
  • Nathan Wills (Operations Manager)
  • Sarah Mangla (Account Manager)

Gainesville Coins Custodians and Storage

Custodial services at Gainesville Coins are provided by Advanta IRA. However, our research indicates that they are open to working with third-party custodians and depositories if you have another preferred service provider.

Regarding storage, Gainesville Coins does not state if it has partnered with any specific vault storage companies. The information on the website regarding storage states the following:

“Gainesville Coins storage uses fully segregated storage, meaning that different clients' assets are not pooled together. When you store your metals in our vault, those are the exact items you receive when you take delivery of your metals.

Your stored assets are fully liquid in the event that you would rather sell them to us than take delivery when the time comes. These funds can be mailed to you as a business check, sent to you via wire transfer, or held in an account toward future purchases. Everything stored in our vault is also backed by comprehensive insurance for the full replacement value of the items.”

Gainesville Coins Products

Gainesville Coins has a wide range of gold, silver, and platinum products in its catalog. For investors interested in holding gold in their precious metals IRA, some options include the American Gold Eagle, the Gold Austrian Philharmonic, and the American Gold Buffalo.

For silver, options include the Silver American Eagle, and the Canadian Silver Maple Leaf. For those investors interested in platinum, there is the Canadian Platinum Maple Leaf. Unfortunately, many of the popular IRA-eligible coins in various weights are deemed “Out of Stock” on the company website.

Review All IRA Options Before Investing

Although we recommend Gainesville Coins for your IRA, there are plenty of fish in the sea. If you feel like you can get a better deal elsewhere, consider shopping around for a superior offer. While the premiums offered by Gainesville are certainly competitive, we always advise doing your due diligence before making a purchase.

It is essential to carefully consider the different precious metals companies available, prior to making any purchases as part of your IRA investment strategy. In addition to its overall reputation, be mindful of a company’s bullion prices, policies, practices, and most importantly, storage fees for precious metals.
