Over the weekend, the United States' venerable and much-respected Secretary of Defense General Jim Mattis made his case loud and clear while on a visit to Seoul to shore up the troops and critical ally of South Korea:

“The threat from North Korea has grown markedly even since my trip here earlier this year. North Korea has accelerated the threat that it poses to its neighbors and the world through its illegal and unnecessary missile and nuclear weapons programs. The U.S. does not accept a nuclear North Korea.”

From the North Korean point of view, these were fighting to the death words. This continuing crisis on the Korean Peninsula begs you to consider the future safety and security of your investment and retirement portfolios. Gold is that best historically proven offensive and defensive weapon that you can acquire to protect your financial and family assets.

Gold makes sense in an IRA precisely because it protects financial portfolios in times of geopolitical and market crises. You'd better start thinking about the Top 5 gold coins for investors and other IRA-approved metals now while you still can.

Secretary of Defense “Mad Dog” Mattis Is Playing for Keeps on North Korea

You had best believe that the long-time former American general whose appropriate military nickname was “Mad Dog” is deadly serious when he talks about finally resolving this nuclear standoff so that the North does not continue to possess and test ever more powerful nuclear weapons.

He claimed on Saturday that the continuously increasing nuclear weapons threat from Pyongyang has created “a new urgency” for diplomatic and military cooperation with South Korea on the critical issue of the North's “outlaw behavior.”

The Chief of the American Pentagon stated these deeply held personal convictions only a day after his visit to the Korean Demilitarized Zone (the infamous DMZ) which divides South Korea from North Korea. He had also already met with the South Korean elected leader, President Moon Jae-in, the previous day while at the presidential palace.

The North has aggravated its Southern neighbor and the world's main superpower continuously by engaging in a few nuclear weapons and ballistic missile program tests over the last several months. One of these involved shooting off ballistic missiles over the country of Japan, while another had them successfully completing their sixth nuclear test in their program history only last month. This graphic below says it all:

This has caused the U.S. in concert with the U.N. to impose round after round of so-far ineffective sanctions on the North. The sanction regime failure has been due in large part to China's lack of full compliance with them, a necessity since they represent 90 percent of North Korean trade. Mattis did not stop with his threats there though:

“While diplomacy remains our preferred course of action, yet President Donald Trump has made clear that the U.S. commitment to defending U.S. allies and upholding deterrence are ironclad. Make no mistake. Any attack on the United States or our allies will be defeated. Any use of nuclear weapons by the North will be met with a massive military response, effective and overwhelming.”

South Korean Defense Minister Song agreed with his counterpart Mattis, labeling the continuing actions of their northern neighbor a “reckless provocation.”

Enraged North Korea Responds With Fury

The North Koreans are also not taking these threats sitting down. After President Trump's now-famous speech at the United Nations where he told the world that “Little Rocket Man” was on a suicide mission and determined to take his country with him, and that if provoked the U.S. would “totally destroy North Korea,” the North responded with a few threats of their own against the United States and its Asian regional allies Japan and North Korea.

The foreign minister indicated that Kim Jong-Un will engage in an above-ground hydrogen bomb test, and that the U.S. should take this hydrogen bomb threat literally. If they actually go through with this taboo nuclear test, it will represent the first above-ground hydrogen bomb tests in four decades. China was the last country to carry one out back in the early 1980's.

Floating the Idea of Bringing Back Tactical Nuclear Weapons to South Korea

The two allied defense heads mentioned discussing a wide range of diverse military subjects. Among these were joint pursuit of improved military abilities as well as the operational control of South Korea's military should another peninsular war break out imminently.

One idea that had been floated stateside in the recent past surrounded the possibility of reintroducing the tactical nuclear weapons artillery to South Korea which the United States had maintained on the peninsula for decades following the signing of the 1953 armistice that halted (but did not end) the war.

This policy was reversed following the conclusion of the Cold War with North Korean neighbor the Soviet Union. The pair stated that such a possibility had not been talked about in the joint meetings. South Korea's Song opined:

“Given the national interest considerations at stake we believe that a tactical nuke is not worth deploying to the Korean Peninsula.”

General Mattis agreed with:

“This subject has not been broached to me by the Republic of Korea government.” The international community's ultimate goal though is to “denuclearize the Korean Peninsula.”

When Trump Goes to South Korea Next Week, You Can Be Sure Tensions Will Rise

This several day appearance of solidarity from Secretary of Defense Mattis is actually in preparation for President Trump's planned trip to Asia in the coming week. On this itinerary, Trump is scheduled to visit Seoul the South Korean capital that boasts 10 million inhabitants all living easily within the North Korean artillery barrage range. Trump will also shore up the allies of Japan, Vietnam, and the Philippines while also visiting Beijing, China on this trip.

Another important statement from Mattis echoed the words of U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson who recently stated “Our goal is not war.” Instead the objective is to force North Korea to irreversibly and verifiably cease all nuclear weapons' development and testing, which has only increased in urgency and intensity since the inauguration of President Donald Trump.

Trump missed the memo on this line of reasoning if this is true from his own administration's point of view. The President has stated on more than one occasion that he is convinced that “diplomacy with North Korea will not work,” but that instead only the military option will achieve the desired and necessary results. This is the primary reason that you need to acquire IRA-approved gold at your earliest convenience.

In The End, Only You Are Ultimately Responsible For Safeguarding Your Personal Investment and Retirement Portfolios

Neither you nor anyone else in the world can honestly guarantee that the North Korean “little rocket man” will not kick start a nuclear war one day simply because he woke up irritated by Trump and his cohorts. After all, it was the North Koreans who stated that a nuclear war could erupt at any moment. Should such a “Black Swan” event actually occur, countless deaths will not be the only devastating casualties; global stock markets will die an ignoble death along with them.

This is why you should make sure that you have at least five to 15 percent of your IRA account assets secreted away in physical gold so that it survives the potential onslaught. Now is a great time to consider the top 5 offshore storage locations for your gold IRA.
